The COVID19 now spread its wings to #Ganjam_District of Odisha as two persons of the district have been tested positive

According to the State Health & Family Welfare Department, Ganjam district reported the new COVID19 cases taking the total number of positive cases in the State to 159.

Meanwhile, the first train ferrying 1,150 migrant workers from Kerala's Ernakulam arrived at #Jagannathpur_Station (#Brahmapur) in Ganjam district on 03 May morning.

After primary screening, the district administration sent the migrants to their districts in 26 buses and one four-wheelers, which were on standby before the arrival of the train.

Of the 1,150 people, 511 passengers of Kandhamal, Ganjam, Rayagada, Boudh Nabarangpur Gajapati and Koraput alighted at Jagannathpur station while the rest got off at Khurda Road station.

More trains are expected to bring stranded residents of Odisha from Kerala and other states under Operation '#Shubh_Yatra'.

Industrial Training Institute (ITI), BRAHMAPUR has come up with #Protective_Devices for the frontline #Medical_Professionals fighting the deadly COVID-19 pandemic by developing an aerosol box for incubation process. 👍👍

Besides the aerosol box, the institute has also developed face shield for the medical professionals treating COVID-19 patients.

Named as 'ITI-Face Shield', this protective gear has been developed using foam lining and elastic band.

The aerosol box consists of a transparent plastic cube designed to cover a patient's head, which has two circular paths through which the medical professionals hands can enter to perform airway procedure.

A team of ITI-Berhampur experts led by Principal Mr. Panigrahy has planned, designed, and developed the aerosol box.

Necessary laser-cutting, drilling and fitting were done after taking feedback from senior doctors of the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here, he said.

The box was prepared from 4-mm transparent acrylic sheets.

Ganjam district administration had given suggestion for development of the aerosol boxes to protect the medical professionals who get directly exposed to the virus.

Commending the job done by the institute, a senior official said the newly developed protective equipment will be examined by health and medical professionals and appropriate steps will be taken.

The cost of development of a box is around Rs 3000, he added.

Earlier the ITI has developed sanitized cloth masks and hand sanitizer in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Berhampur for frontline COVID-19 warriors.

Superstar Waheeda Rehman's Brahmapur connection

Waheeda Rehman's first performance on stage as a Dancer in earlier days was at Brahampur's Ganjam Kala Parishad organized by her Uncle Dr.Ferose Ali who was a famous doctor and social activist in Brahmapur city.

This performance of Bharat Natyam was watched by a Telugu Film Director who gave her first opportunity to work for a Telugu film. Guru Dutta watched that movie and introduced in Mumbai. Later she become the heartthrob of Indian Cinema with Dev Anand and Guru Dutt's film CID.

Dr. Ferose Ali was a down to earth man who used to cure patients free of cost those days. He originally hailed from Cuttack but established in Brahmapur City. He loves Brahmapur more than his family. His house was known as 'White House' in that era which situated between Khallikote Collage Stadium and Palur Bunglow Street and used to be the epicenter of intellectual hangouts in those days. Waheeda visited her Uncle's house several times in those days.

Waheeda again came back to Brahmapur city for a grand performance after achieving stardom in Bollywood. She raised funds for charity. The funds were used for Red Cross Maternity Ward in Then Red Cross Hospital and Now known as City Hospital in Brahmapur.

Nargis Natarajan (Writer and Daughter of Late Dr. Ferose ali, a student of Saint Vincent Convent School, Brahmapur) also mentioned these incidents in her book'Daddy- A Bouquet of Memories'.

Private secretary to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and 5T secretary VK Pandian visited Ganjam district and reviewed the progress work of the ongoing projects there. He also visited the Maa TaraTarini Shakti Pitha in the district to offer his prayers.

After having a darshan of the Adi Shakti, Pandian reviewed the progress of various development projects associated with the shrine. 

The biggest festival observed at the temple will begin March 10. Pandian asked Collector Vijay Amrut Kulange and few officials, who had accompanied him, to ensure completion of all projects associated with the shrine before the beginning of the festival. 

This apart, he asked the officials to prepare a plan to give the temple a new look.

Apart from the Collector, project director (PD), district rural development agency (DRDA) Siddharth Shankar Swain, Purusottampur tehsildar Arun Kumar Nayak, block development officer (BDO) Seemanchal Mohanty and executive engineer, public works department Tapan Kumar Panigrahi were present when Pandian visited the shrine.

Swami Narendrananda Saraswati visited the famous Tara Tarini Shakti Pitha near Brahmapur city in Ganjam district on 27 January, 2020.Accompanied with his disciples, Swamiji performed some special puja at the Shrine.He also blessed the devotees who came to see him at the temple.
He inaugurated the Devi Bhagabata Parayana being organised at the temple.While praising the significance of Adi Shakti Taratarini, he also called for early completion of the newly constructed temple. 

Pre-Mauryan Era Structure Found During Excavation at #Jaugada in Ganjam District of Odisha.

Jaugada ("Jaugarh", ancient Samapa]) is a ruined fortress in the Ganjam district in Odisha, India. It ancient name was Samapa or Sampa. It was the capital city of the mighty Kalinga emperors from the Ramayana era till Kalinga War. Jaugada lies 35 km north-west of Berhampur City and 160 km south-west of Bhubaneshwar. After the defeat in Kalinga War it was the provincial Mauryan fortified capital of  the Kalinga, Jaugada is famed by its version of the monumental stone-cut edicts in Prakrit of the Mauryan emperor Ashoka.

Despite J.D. Beglar's description during the later 19th century of the extant fortification towers and moat ("The walls had towers, also of earth, at each of the four corners, and also on each flank of each of the eight entrances"), without photos and drawings, the remains are difficult to visualize and comprehend. In 1956 Debala Mitra of the Archaeological Survey of India transected the northern glacis with a trench. 

The now collapsed trench of this investigation appears to lie just east of the eastern gate of the north wall. It is near the great Shiva temple Kaleswar & Rameswar (which is known as a temple where Shiva and Vishnu are seen together).

This site was first documented in 2001 by a team from the University of Heidelberg.
