The problem regarding shifting the Berhampur city bus stand was solved at a special general body meeting of the Berhampur Development Authority (BeDA) held in Berhampur. The five-acre plot of BeDA on Corporation Road in Berhampur city which was lying unused for years will be developed as Ganjam Haat – a modern facility for the city’s residents. The Ganjam Haat’s layout has been finalized and it will have the shape of a human heart. It will be constructed at a cost of Rs 30 crore. The haat will have facilities for 66 shops and a 2,500-seat theater.
There will be special corners containing articles of use by women, children and senior citizens. A three-storey commercial complex measuring 70,000 square feet will be built in front of the Ganjam Haat. It will have 111 shops. Cultural programmes by local artistes will be held at the Haat Saturdays and Sundays, sources said. The tendering process will start within 45 days and the project will be completed in two years.
