ITI Berhampur, Odisha Develops UV Sanitizer for 'Shoe Soles'

The Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Berhampur has invented an Ultra Violet (UV) Sanitizer designed for powerful disinfection of shoe soles.
Chairman Odisha Skill Development Authority, Mr. Subroto Bagchi launched it in Berhampur through webinar.
It produces adequate energy to damage and alter DNA of all kinds of potentially harmful microorganisms on the bottoms of shoes.
“This is unique in the country and can be used at home entrances or public places like hospitals, offices, airports, railway stations, shopping malls, hotels and institutes etc”, said Principal ITI, Dr. Rajat Kumar Panigrahy.

The user has to stand on the device and the sanitisation process is completed within 8 seconds.
These UV light emits rays upward and eradicates the micro organisms deposited on the exterior surface.
The mechanism is enabled through IR sensors. The UVC light is triggered only when both the soles are on the platform.
The sanitizer includes a portable platform. This is an integration of skill in sheet metal, filling, fitting, electrical and electronics, the principal said.
The first machine was donated to COVID Hospital Behrampur. Associate Professor Medicine MKCG Medical College and Hospital cum In-charge COVID Hospital Berhampur, Dr. Umashankar Mishra, received it.

PM Narendra Modi appreciates new innovation by #ITI_Berhampur using ultra violet (UV) ray

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has appreciated the new and cheap apparatus innovated by #ITI_Berhampur for sanitation of materials using ultra violet (UV) ray.

Image may contain: 1 person, text
  • It has also found place in the ‘Innovating for India’ page.
  • It is an efficient instrument to fight against coronavirus. Different materials like mobile phone, tablet, laptop, pen, mask, currency note, coin, grocery items, debit and credit cards can be disinfected by the instrument within 15 minutes and virus destroyed.
  • Stating that it’s a great achievement to get recognition from the Prime Minister, ITI Principal said the ITIans made the UV sanitizer machine this month by using a discarded microwave oven at a cost of Rs 1200. “We have already built more than 50 such ovens,” he said.
  • Union Skills Development Minister Shri Mahendra Nath Pande has also praised this UV-C light as an efficient sanitizer.
He has directed the students of ITIs throughout India to be trained to build this machine through video-conferencing in the first phase from May 26.

#Brahmapur_ITI once again was acclaimed globally for its innovations to tackle Covid-19 pandemic

#Brahmapur_ITI once again was acclaimed globally for its innovative designs of cost effective equipment to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic.
# Odisha #Chief_Secretary Asit Kumar Tripathy and Chairman of Odisha Skill Development Authority, (#OSDA) Subrato Bagchi appreciated the UVC Sanitisor designed and developed by the ITI Brahmapur.
# The newly designed UVC sanitizer machine was installed at the conference hall of the Chief Secretary and office of Chairman OSDA and SDET Department.
# Notably, #Prime_Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union #Skill_Development Minister Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey too have already appreciated the low cost UVC sanitizer and put it in innovation club joining hands in the coronavirus fight.
# Speaking of its functionality, ITI Principal Prof R Panigrahi said that to make the chamber safer and to prevent from any radiation outside the chamber, an unserviceable microwave oven is used so that any infected device can be put inside the chamber for fifteen minutes.
Image may contain: text and food

# Timer circuit is being provided which automatically cut off supply to the UV light, Panigrahi said.
# The UVC lamp is reliable, well studied anti micro logical technology and works primarily by destroying the DNA inside bacteria, virus and fungi. The high energy portion of UV-C is highly effective.

# The principle is used to sanitize drinking water in the water filters. By this all the electronic gadgets, face masks, PPEs can be easily disinfected.
# Applying this technology thousands of unused microwave ovens can easily be transformed to UV sanitizer which is the need of the hour, Prof Panigrahi said.

All ITI in the country will replicate the technique developed at #ITI_Berhampur

All Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) in the country will replicate the technique developed at the ITI in Odisha’s Berhampur
Picking up the technology from the Berhampur ITI, Odisha Union Minister for Skill Development Mahendra Nath Pandey in an interview to the AajTak TV news channel stated all the other ITIs in India will construct similar UV sanitisers from thrown away microwave ovens to help the fight against coronavirus in their respective areas.
All Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) in the country will replicate the technique developed at the ITI in Odisha’s Berhampur to convert discarded microwave ovens into ultraviolet (UV) sanitiser chambers for the disinfection of mobile phones, pens and other small items carried by medical staff at coronavirus (COVID-19) hospitals.
Devised by the Principal of the Berhampur ITI Rajat Kumar Panigrahy, the conversion costs only ₹1,200.
Equipment to be disinfected has to be placed in it for 15 minutes. A timer is provided.

ITI Berhampur comes up with all-new foot operated sanitizer machine starting at Rs 499

ITI Berhampur has come up with a cost-effective foot-operated hand sanitizer machine which starts at a basic price of Rs 499.
  • The product shows a new era of design where they can beat the Chinese competition.
  • Different models of the mechanical version of foot-operated sanitiser come at different prices starting 499 and going up till 1,499. The most expensive model, which boasts of automatic version sanitizer costs Rs 2,499.
  • The model uses Italian model Adino ckt under the guidance of Principal ITI Berhampur Dr. Rajat Kumar Panigrahi.
  • One year free maintenance is also being offered for mechanical products and six months for the Automatic sanitizer model. As per reports, 200 sets of sanitizers will be manufactured in the first phase.
  • Earlier, ITI Berhampur had designed a sanitizing chamber operating on UVC light from used or discarded microwaves. Any infected item can be disinfected by putting the substance inside the microwave for 15 minutes.
  • A timer circuit is provided in each chamber which automatically cuts off supply to the UV light when the action is complete. The product has drawn praise from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
  • Earlier, Skill Development Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey also urged ITI's across the country to follow the ITI-Berhampur model to manufacture more microwave sanitizer machines to help the health workers on COVID-19 duty.
  • "It works primarily by destroying the DNA inside bacteria, virus and fungi," said Dr Rajat Kumar Panighray, Principal of the ITI-Berhampur.
  • He also emphasized that the UV lamp is a reliable and well-studied anti-micro-logical technology.
