BERHAMPUR: Ganjam Zilla Vikash Manch, in a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, has requested him to take steps for setting up an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) at Berhampur, as declared earlier. Recently, the Central Government has approved the suggestion of Odisha Government to establish an IIIT in the State. Odisha has IIITs at Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur, and keeping in view the growing demand for technical education in south Odisha, there is a need to establish an IIIT at Berhampur, the outfit argued. The Manch said that there are 11 Universities apart from a few proposed ones in north Odisha, whereas only three universities are in South Odisha. Khallikote College in the city is yet to get a university status. For the betterment of the students and to keep regional balance, the IIIT should be set up in Berhampur, the Manch demanded.
