BERHAMPUR: A two-day national workshop on implementation of NREGA was inaugurated at Chatrapur. The Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) has organised this workshop in collaboration with the Ganjam district administration. Ganjam district was chosen as the venue as it was adjudged second best district in the country in the field of implementation of NREGA during the year that ended in March 2008. The conference is being attended by resource persons from the LBSNAA, civil servants from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, collectors and project directors of District Rural Development Agencies (DRDA) of Orissa. The participants discussed the success and stumbling blocks during the implementation of NREGA in their respective areas. As a resident of Ganjam district, I feel really ashamed at the incidents happened during the workshop. On behalf of the people of district, we should issue a public apology through this forum. Also the time has come to initiate a process of social reform and awareness in the district which is very prone to rowdism and indifference attitude by intellectuals.
ReplyDeleteThe guilty who brought shame to Ganjam has been punished by his Party and now the police in all probability is likely to go after him. What better punishment than this could have been thought of?
