MKCG, Berhampur, gets 8 more PG seats

BERHAMPUR: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has agreed to add at least eight more seats in five PG departments of MKCG Medical College here in the current academic year. While there was an addition of one seat each in the PG departments of anatomy, pharmacology, community medicine and physiology, four more seats are on offer for pathology department, said principal S Bag. The MCI, however, rejected the proposal of the medical college to increase the seats in PG department of gynaecology from 8 to 15. A proposal to increase the seats from 4 to 10 in anaesthesia branch is pending for inspection, Bag said. The MCI wants the college to address some of its deficiencies of staff and infrastructure before it can give permission for increasing the student strength from 107 to 150 this year in its UG course. A four-member team, led by the state joint director of health Sitaram Mohapatra, visited the medical college and hospital recently to review the MCI remarks and to recommend steps to correct the deficiency to ensure permission for 150 students this year. The final nod of the MCI was expected in the first week of July after they get report from the state government. The college principal, however, said this was a routine exercise before the admission in under graduate medical courses.
