State government has decided to
develop ring road of Berhampur, a major southern Odisha city, dividing the
total stretch into six segments. In a high-level meeting chaired by Chief
Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik here recently, it was decided that finalization
of alignment and preparation of detail project report for the proposed ring
road would be completed within next three months.
The total length of the ring
road is proposed to be around 40 kms. According to sources, the proposed ring
road will basically cut and link all the radial roads touching Berhampur. “In a
clock-wise manner, the ring road will touch NH-59 at Ratnapur
(Kukudahandi-Berhampur), NH-5 at Raghunathpur (Chhatraput-Berhampur),
Berhampur-Gopalpur road at Karapalli, NH-5 at Halidapadar (on Konisi/Giruisola-Berhampur),
near Lathi on Chikiti-Berhampur road on State Highway 17 before Dakhinapur
(Taptapani-Digapahandi Road) and back to NH-59 at Ratnapur.”
The district
administration has been asked to acquire land for four-laning although
initially the road would be developed as a two-lane road. “The land losers
should be given to option to buy back an appropriate percentage of land lost by
them at rate fixed by government after development,” the high-level meeting
resolved. Source: The Hindu
