ଭୁବନେଶ୍ୱର,୩୦/୦୪: ଦୀର୍ଘ ବର୍ଷ ଧରି ଯୋଜନା ଭିତରେ ଥିବା ବ୍ରହ୍ମପୁର ରିଙ୍ଗରୋଡ୍‌ କାମ ଏଣିକି ଆଗେଇବ । ପୂର୍ବରୁ ଏହି ପ୍ରକଳ୍ପ ପାଇଁ ଟେଣ୍ଡର ହୋଇଥିଲେ ବି କାମ ଆଗେଇ ପାରୁନଥିଲା । ଜମି ଅଧିଗ୍ରହଣ ସମସ୍ୟା ପାଇଁ ପ୍ରକଳ୍ପ ଝୁଲୁଥିଲା । ଏବେ ଏ ପ୍ରକଳ୍ପ କାମ ଆଗେଇବା ନେଇ ନୂଆ ଆଶା ଦେଖାଦେଇଛି । ଏଥିପାଇଁ ସରକାରଙ୍କଠାରୁ ପ୍ରଶାସନିକ ଅନୁମୋଦନ ଲୋଡିଛନ୍ତି । ଏବେ ପୁଣି ବ୍ରହ୍ମପୁର ରିଙ୍ଗରୋଡ କାମ ଆଗେଇବା ନେଇ ନୂଆ ଆଶା ଦେଖାଦେଇଛି । ଏଥିରେ ୧୦ ଲେନ୍‌ର କ୍ୟାରେଜ୍‌ ୱେ ରହିବ । ରାସ୍ତାର ଦୁଇ ପାଶ୍ୱର୍ରେ ଦୁଇ ଲେନ୍‌ର ସର୍ଭିସ ରୋଡ୍‌ ରହିବ । ଭବିଷ୍ୟତରେ ରାସ୍ତା ସଂପ୍ରସାରଣ ପାଇଁ ମଧ୍ୟ ବ୍ୟବସ୍ଥା ରହିବ । ଏବେ ପ୍ରକଳ୍ପ ପାଇଁ ଜମି ଅଧିଗ୍ରହଣ ଆରମ୍ଭ ହୋଇସାରିଛି । ପ୍ରକଳ୍ପ ପାଇଁ ପ୍ରଶାସନିକ ଅନୁମୋଦନ ଲୋଡି ସରକାରଙ୍କୁ ଚିଠି ଲେଖାଯାଇଛି । ଖୁବ୍‌ଶୀଘ୍ର କାମ ଆରମ୍ଭ ହେବ ବୋଲି ଜଣାପଡ଼ିଛି।

City bus hope for Berhampur

BERHAMPUR: BDA and Local Authorities of Berhampur are planning to introduce a city bus service from the city to Gopalpur and Chhatrapur under public-private-partnership mode. “Though mini buses ply on both the Berhampur-Gopalpur and Berhampur-Chhatrapur routes, we propose to introduce a city bus service to these two places because of public demand,” said secretary of the Berhampur Development Authority Saran Kumar Jena. “We have engaged a consulting agency to make a detailed survey on the prospects and the possibilities of plying city buses on these two routes. The survey will take various factors, such as population, number of commuters travelling between these places and the number of autorickshaws and other vehicles in the area, into consideration. The survey, which was launched by the consulting agency two months ago, is in its final stages now,” Jena said. The consulting agency is expected to submit its preliminary report on May 14. The proposal will then be discussed with all stakeholders of the town, including local legislators, sub-collector, representatives of the Berhampur Municipal Corporation and others. District collector Ganjam Kishan Kumar has convened a meeting on May 10 for preliminary discussions on the proposed city bus service and various other development initiatives. “The mini buses, which are plying on these two routes at present, are insufficient. Though the capacity of a mini bus is 20, most of these vehicles ply with about 35 passengers. Introduction of city buses in these two routes will be of immense benefit to the commuters,” said Sudhir Das, who travels to Gopalpur from Berhampur everyday. However, Nagen Kumar Padhi, vice-president of the Berhampur Trekkers’ and Taxi Owners’ Association, is worried over the proposal to introduce the bus service. “It will affect our interests. We should be consulted on the matter,” he said.

NH 217 bypass project near Berhmapur in limbo

BERHAMPUR: The 21 km stretch of NH 217 which passes through Berhampur city has made the city roads congested with high vehicular traffic and pollution. Accidents have become regular on this stretch. NH 217 (438 kms) which connects the Gopalpur port with Chhatisgarh passes through Ganjam, Kandhamal and Kalahandi districts besides the silk city and is fast turning out to be the life line of the mineral rich hinterland of Orissa and Chhattisgarh and the volume of traffic is only likely to grow as Gopalpur Port becomes an all weather port in 2010. Sensing the pitiable state of city roads and its chaotic traffic conditions the National Highway authority in the past has widened the stretch of NH-217 passing through the city and has also sanctioned the survey of a bypass for the road passing through Berhampur. Almost three years have passed since then, but the bypass project is yet to take shape. In the mean time the project cost for the bypass has gone past Rs 40 crores with the Highway Authorities yet to take a final call on the project. Three alternative routes have been suggested for the bypass in the survey done by an Australian consultancy in association with a local firm. The bypass project has been a long standing issue which is likely to work as a ring road for Berhampur city and end the traffic problems, besides reducing the distance between Berhampur and Hinjili which is considered as an extended urban center of greater Berhampur region.
