Brahmapur Commissionerate Police system soon

The much-awaited setting up of a Commissionerate police system here has got a boost with identification of required land for construction of its headquarters and staff quarters having come to final stage.
Sources said the Brahmapur police have submitted their proposal to the State Government for establishment of the proposed headquarters of the Commissionerate of Police near the Income Tax office (Ayakar Bhavan) at Ambapua in the city. For this purpose, a patch of land measuring 2.5 acres has been identified. Similarly, another suitable land measuring 2.5 acre have also been identified for construction of staff quarters, sources said.
Brahmapur police sources said they have started looking a suitable building in the city for the purpose of residence of the new Commissioner. Till the Commissionerate of Police has its own building in the proposed site, it would start functioning in the office of the Brahmapur Police District Headquarters likely by May this year, it added.
Meanwhile, the local Police have submitted several new proposals and measures to the State Government for effective functioning of the Commissionerate of Police in the city.
According to the new proposal, three police stations at Jarada, Digapahandi and K Nuagaon under the Brahmapur police district might function under the Ganjam police district, while three police stations at Chhatrapur, Chamakhandi and Arjipalli under the Ganjam police would be included in the proposed Commissionerate Police system. Besides the exchange, other eleven police stations of the Brahmapur police district would come under the new system.
Like the Commissionerate Police (Bhubaneswar-Cuttack), the whole Commissionerate area would be divided into five zones headed by five Assistant Commissioner of Polices (ACP). Apart from that three IPS officers would be appointed for the post of the Commissioner of Police along with two DCPs (Territorial and Headquarters). Under each ACP, separate cells like Crime, Human Trafficking and HRPC would function.
Notably, DGP Sanjeev Marik during his last visit had assured the Brahmapur people to strengthen the police in the city to gain confidence of the public.
