New foot over bridge to connect all four platforms of Berhampur Railway Station


The Berhampur Railway Station will soon have a foot over bridge connecting all the four platforms. A decision to start the work of the foot over bridge soon was taken at the Railway Station consultative committee meeting on Wednesday.
Lingaraj Nanda, Divisional Commercial Manager, East Coast Railway, Khordha Division informed that tenders have been called for the foot over bridge and work will start soon.
The committee members have also proposed to make a deep bore well between Berhampur and Golanthara Railway stations to provide better water facilities and to give an unused room at the station entrance to Reserve Police Force for better security.
Chief Commercial Manager of East Coast Railway, Khordha Division, Station Manager and other committee members were also present at the meeting.

Gopalpur port (Berhampur) resumes operation



More than two years after it was hit by cyclones, Gopalpur Port, Berhampur in Ganjam district of Odisha has resumed operations. Located between Paradip and Visakhapatnam, the port welcomed its maiden shipment after re-commissioning, which was inaugurated by Odisha’s Commerce and Transport Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi yesterday. 
Gopalpur Port, BERHAMPUR (2)The port had commenced its commercial operations and trial shipments during April 2013 but the infrastructure was devastated due to cyclone Phailin in October that year followed by cyclone Hudhud in 2014, a port release said.
Gopalpur Port is one of the most environment-friendly ports in the region and is developed on a four km stretch of coast line and is well connected by road and rail. Gopalpur Port has adequate stack yard space for storage of bulk and break bulk cargo and it is planned with provision for upgradation as per the traffic growth.
Besides the open stack yards, there are 15 covered sheds with a total area of 12,000 sq.m for storage of break bulk cargoes, it said. Gopalpur port will serve the factories and the mineral rich hinterlands of Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. The port facilities are being developed to provide the lowest cost and most efficient option for users in this area. The port is being developed in three phases, the release said.

L V Prasad Eye Institute opens in Berhampur, Odisha


Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on 13 December, 2015 sought cooperation from private hospitals for providing quality health services to the poor. The government is committed to provide quality health services to the poor people. Private hospitals should also cooperate with the state to provide quality health services, Patnaik said after inaugurating L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) in Berhampur. Besides residents of the area, people of other adjoining districts will be benefited and get proper treatment for their eye ailment at the Centre, the chief minister said, while urging the hospital authorities to provide free treatment to the poor people.
We hope the new eye hospital will help government in reducing the percentage of blindness in the state, state’s health minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak said.
The new facility happens to be LVPEI's 15th secondary centre and the third in Odisha. The LVPEI set up the Arjun Waney Eye Centre at Berhampur in partnership with Savitri Waney Charitable Foundation and Mission for Vision. The Arjun Waney Eye Centre at Berhampur marks the augmentation of LVPEI s services in the state, which began in 2006 at Bhubaneswar.
According to Dr Gullapalli N Rao, Founder and Chairperson, L V Prasad Eye Institute, These Eye Centres in Odisha will be a continuum to LVPEI s vision of providing good quality, permanent and affordable eye care for rural India. The Berhampur eye care facility will be a part of LVPEI network and provide high quality comprehensive eye care services to all, irrespective of their socio-economic status.
Dr Taraprasad Das, Vice Chairman, LVPEI said quality eye care brought to the door step of people of Ganjam and neibouring area, will further augment the institutes commitment to the state. It will augment similar effort in the districts of Sundergarh and Rayagada eye care facilities opened earlier this year.

Water sports complex inaugurated at famous beach resort Gopalpur-on-Sea, Berhampur



A water sports complex was inaugurated in the backwater at Gopalpur beach resort in Ganjam district of Odisha on Sunday.
The inauguration comes ahead of the Gopalpur beach festival scheduled from December 24 to 28. This complex is being envisioned as a major attractor of tourists and water sport enthusiasts to this famous beach resort on eastern coast, best known for it serenity. Berhampur sub-collector Nikhil Pawan Kalyan inaugurated the complex.
Established with support of international scuba diver Shabbir Baux, the complex has facilities for water surfing, wind surfing, kayaking and scuba diving as well as water scooters. It would remain open for visitors from 7 a.m. till 5 p.m.. Well-known wind surfer Manaswini Moharana, who hails from Ganjam district, would provide training and technical support to the visitors.
