Two major projects of Berhampur Development Authority (BDA) received in principle approval of the State Level Empowered Committee headed by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi.
The two projects - Berhampur North City and Eco-Retreat Hub at Gopalpur - are proposed to be implemented through Comprehensive Development Plan Infrastructure Development Fund (CIDF) scheme.
The proposed Berhampur North City project will be developed over an area of 101 acres in Sitalapalli Mouza of Konisi tehsil of Ganjam District. The cost for initial development of physical infrastructure and public amenities has been estimated at `113 crore. The other project approved in the meeting is the Eco-Retreat Hub at Gopalpur. The project has been proposed to be developed over 47 acres of land in Udayapur and Venkatraipur Mouza under Konishi tehsil at an estimated cost of `40 crore for development of physical infrastructure and the beach front of Bay of Bengal.
These projects are part of the Comprehensive Development Plan for Berhampur Development Plan Area delineated by Berhampur Development Authority (BDA) comprising Berhampur, Chhatrapur and Gopalpur.
The Chief Secretary directed the Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) department to guide other major urban local bodies (ULBs) of the State for taking up similar projects under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) Yojana.
Other major urban centres like Balasore, Baripada, Bhadrak, Berhampur, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Rourkela and Sambalpur have been included under AMRUT Yojana.
The H&UD Department has taken up various water supply, sewerage, drainage, urban transport and green park projects in these towns. The Chief Secretary further directed the Department to find out status of the land allotted to various Government and non-Government agencies in different ULBs. He also asked the Department to make plan layout mandatory before approval of building plan in ULBs.
Development Commissioner R Balakrishnan, Secretaries of Water Resources, Forest and Environment, Housing and Urban Development, Ganjam Collector, BDA Secretary and senior officers from departments concerned participated in the deliberations.
