While other states have marched ahead in developing multiple domestic airports in their respective states, it seems Odisha is yet to understand the importance of air connectivity for economic growth. Little back of the hand comparison shows how cities with same population and comparable parameters have marched ahead over the cities in Odisha merely on the back of better air connectivity. Berhampur, Sambalpur and Rourkela in Odisha, despite their potential to emerge as major growth centers are hardly recognised nationally. This has not only affected the growth of industry and urbanisation in the respective regions, but the vast potential of tourism remains untapped. It is high time, Odisha Govt. decided to develop full-fledged Green Field domestic airports in Berhampur and Rourkela to ensure the state moves ahead in the development chart.
