Silk City Berhampur

German technical support for better Berhampur city infra

German-based consultancy GIZ will provide technical advice to the Berhampur Municipal Corporation for proper implementation of different infrastructure development projects.
The organization is one of the policy and planning advisers of the Union ministry of urban development. The ministry has asked the consultancy to provide technical support to two cities, Berhampur and Puri, said deputy commissioner, Berhampur civic body, Sangram Panda.
A four-member team of the GIZ on Friday discussed with the officials of the Berhampur Municipal Corporation about various Centre-sponsored projects being implemented in the city and visited several slum pockets.
The team members also discussed with the engineers of the Public Health Engineering Organization in the Silk City.
The agency will prepare a report on the requirements for infrastructure development of Berhampur and submit it to the ministry, Panda said.
The major projects being implemented in the city include the Rajiv Awas Yojana (272 crore), World Bank-aided Odisha Disaster Recovery Project (203 crore) and the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation scheme (60 crore).
Some other projects which are in the proposal stage include Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (28 crore), Janibili drinking water project (415 crore) and underground cabling, official sources said.
Most of these projects are being implemented in the post-Phailin period after the cyclonic storm on October 13, 2013, severely damaged the infrastructure of the city. The government has decided to make Berhampur a slum-free city and provide pucca houses to urban poor, the sources said.

Tara Tarini: A revered Shakti Peetha & Tantra Peetha

The Tara Tarini shrine is considered as one of the most revered Shakti Peetha & Tantra Peetha and major pilgrimage centre of Shakta(Shaktism) sect of Hinduism.
Shakti Peethas are holy abode of Parashakti.
The origin of Shakti Peethas are related to the Daksha yagna and Sati's self-immolation.This peetha is believed to have originated from the body parts of the corpse of Sati Devi, when Shiva carried it and wandered after Sati's self-immolation.
There are 51 Shakti Peethas and 26 Upa Peethas originated and they are spread across the Indian sub continent.
51 Shakti Peeths are believed to be representing the 51 alphabets in Sanskrit.
The Shakti Peetha shrines lead to the development of Shaktism in India.
Sati Devi's breasts are believed to have fallen here in Tara Tarini.

Do you know these facts about Tara Tarini Adi Shakti peetha?

Tara Tarini is a well-known ancient Shakti peetha and Tantra peetha.
In puranas, tantras, in tribal & folk literature one can find enough evidence regarding its influence on the society in various ages.

The great religious texts including the kalika Purana (the Asthashakti) recognize the four major Shakti Peethas. Like
(Bimala, Pada Khanda) inside the Jagannath Temple, Puri, Odisha,
(Tara Tarini) Sthana Khanda (Breasts), near Brahmapur, Odisha,
(Kamakshi, Yoni khanda) near Guwahati, Assam and
(Dakhina Kalika, Mukha khanda) in Kolkata, West Bengal
originated from the limbs of the Corpse of Mata Sati.

In a hymn, the Kalika Purana (Asthashakti) says:
[[“Vimala Pada khandancha,
Stana khandancha Tarini (Tara Tarini),
Kamakhya Yoni khandancha,
Mukha khandancha Kalika (Kali)
Anga pratyanga sangena
Vishnu Chakra Kshate nacha……”]]

Scholars believe goddesses Tara Tarini was the ista devi of kalinga emperors, whose capital 'SAMPA / SAMAPA' was near Tara Tarini shrine before the invasion of Ashoka in about 2240 years back i.e. 261 B.C.
Even it is believed that the Buddhists taken into control, imitated and practiced the TARA worship from this place.

After Ashoka's kalinga conquest this famous Hindu shrine was came under the control of Buddhists.
It was during Adi Sankaracharya who released this peetha from Buddhist tantrikas.
During this 1000 years of Buddhists dominance, various age old traditions of this temple destroyed.
Basu Praharaja during 17th -18th century renovated the temple and arranged daily puja on the hill top shrine of Maa.

ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF IIM IN ODISHA

Congratulations to people of Sambalpur! They have succeeded in convincing the state government what people of Berhampur could not do in all these years. In the state of Odisha you won’t be heard unless your noise is the loudest. No other logic works here and the white elephants sitting in the State Secretariat give two hoots to the social tension and regional sentiments that such decisions generate. Berhampur’s case can only be compared with a situation of "Darkness Under the Lamps".
If the CM of the State represents you and he is not convinced about your eligibility and potentials- then whom do you complain? It is as if Berhampur city known for its entrepreneurial culture is wasting its energy and efforts in trying to convince the useless leadership ruling Odisha with no vision and sense of purpose, for whom central Institutes are like real-estate projects meant for decoration purpose and their social and economic implications matter too little for them. But, we shall keep trying our best!

Ball set rolling for city bus services in Berhampur

City Bus Stand, Berhampur
The state government has decided to soon introduce city bus services connecting Berhampur to its adjoining towns like Chhatrapur and Gopalpur. The decision is based on a survey by a Mumbai-based consultant on bus services in the biggest town in southern Odisha. The final project report will be submitted to the state government before tender is issued, which will invite private companies to work through public private partnership. The government is likely to provide the buses while the chosen private company will be responsible for services management. Berhampur Development Authority (BDA) will act as a nodal agency. "The government is likely to provide the required buses as no transport operator was coming forward to provide buses when the BDA floated the tender earlier," said BDA chairman Kailash Rana.

At a high-level meeting, held recently in Bhubaneswar, the consultant recommended introduction of at least 25 buses in the first phase in Berhampur, Gopalpur and Chhatrapur. "The district administration will extend all support to BDA in this," district collector Krishan Kumar said. "We have already discussed the matter with the government and talks are in advanced stage," said Purna Chandra Pathy, vice-chairman, BDA. On project cost, he said it was not finalized. Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Notified Area Councils of Gopalpur and Chhatrapur will be other stakeholders in the project. "We have been asked to identify the bus stops within the town. We will soon do that," said BMC commissioner A K Mohanty.

The Berhampur civic body had introduced town bus services in the 1990s. But the services were withdrawn after the municipality incurred heavy losses. Now, there is no government transport service linking Chhatrapur, the district headquarters town, and Gopalpur, a tourist spot, with Berhampur and people have to depend on trekkers and matadors. With rise in population and tourist visits, authorities feel the services will be feasible this time.
