Ganjam Bar Association decries call for cease work agitation by Highcourt Bar

Berhampur: Ganjam Bar Association on Saturday criticised the High Court Bar Association and the Cuttack Bar Association for their alleged attempt to oppose establishment of permanent High Court Benches in Southern and Western parts of the State. At an emergency meeting of the action council of the Ganjam Bar Association, a resolution was passed to condemn the cease work call given by the High Court Bar Association and Cuttack Bar Association on July 19 to protest against the statement of Union Law Minister Veerapa Moily in support of establishment of permanent High Court Benches in different parts of the State.
President of the Ganjam Bar Association Bhagaban Sahu said such protest was only speaking of the mean minded attitude of these bar associations as establishment of the High Court benches is nothing but taking justice to the door steps of the common mass.
The Ganjam Bar Association felt that the High Court should declare such cease work agitation by the lawyers in Cuttack to be illegal and unconstitutional as per the decision of the Supreme Court in relation to the ‘Harish Uppal case'.
It may be noted that the State government has established one man judicial commission comprising Justice C.R. Pal to suggest places for the establishment of proposed permanent benches of the High Court.
The Ganjam Bar Association also demanded that the commission should file its report as soon as possible. In its resolution the Ganjam Bar Association also criticised Mr. Moily for not mentioning the name of Berhampur as a suitable place for establishment of a permanent Bench of the High Court in Orissa. During his visit to Sambalpur in western Orissa recently he had advocated the establishment of the High Court benches in different parts of the State.
The Bar Association members however thanked the law minister for his support towards establishment of High Court Benches.
