SHIFTING OF BUS-STAND TO NEW BUS TERMINAL & WORK OF GANJAM HAAT WILL BEGIN SOON

The problem regarding shifting the Berhampur city bus stand was solved at a special general body meeting of the Berhampur Development Authority (BeDA) held in Berhampur. The district administration will declare the bus terminal at Haladiapadar as Berhampur City Bus Terminal after a cosmetic face-lift on October 2,Gandhi Jayanti Day. All buses operating in the city will halt at the new terminal. Local authorities have allotted Rs. 1 crore for repair works, said BeDA Vice-Chairman Chakravarti Singh Rathore.

The five-acre plot of BeDA on Corporation Road in Berhampur city which was lying unused for years will be developed as Ganjam Haat – a modern facility for the city’s residents. The Ganjam Haat’s layout has been finalized and it will have the shape of a human heart. It will be constructed at a cost of Rs 30 crore. The haat will have facilities for 66 shops and a 2,500-seat theater.

There will be special corners containing articles of use by women, children and senior citizens. A three-storey commercial complex measuring 70,000 square feet will be built in front of the Ganjam Haat. It will have 111 shops. Cultural programmes by local artistes will be held at the Haat Saturdays and Sundays, sources said. The tendering process will start within 45 days and the project will be completed in two years.
