Delegation from Berhampur meet the CM for developing sports infrastructure


BERHAMPUR: Members of the Berhampur based Orissa Weight Lifting Association urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to initiate measures to promote weightlifting in the State. The office-bearers of the association met the Chief Minister along with K. Ravi Kumar, the weightlifter from Berhampur who won three gold medals in the commonwealth weightlifting championship held in Malaysia recently. Mr. Kumar had represented the country in the 69 kg category. Berhampur MLA R.C.C. Patnaik, State Revenue Minister Suryanarayan Patro and Mayor of Berhampur Sibashankar Dash also accompanied the delegation.

        The Orissa Weight Lifting Association urged the Chief Minister to develop Berhampur as a grooming centre of weightlifting in the State. It may be noted that Berhampur has till date produced several weightlifters of national and international standards in both men and women category. Senior weightlifting coach Ramesh Chandra Padhi and secretary of the Orissa Weight Lifting Association Narayan Sahu tried to put forward the problems faced by the budding weightlifters of the State. Further, they drew the attention of the state Chief Minister to the inadequate sports infrastructure in Berhampur city and urged proper sports infrastructure in the southern city of the state.
